The NBA is in its offseason and the NBA draft occurred a few weeks ago. Most of the NBA news in years past was about teams getting ready for the new season. This year there was a huge story about Lebron James. Lebron was trying to decide if he was going to stay in Miami with the Heat or leave for another team. For days it was a huge media storm of what his decision will be. When it was all said and done Lebron made the decision to leave Miami and head back home to the team he was first drafted for. The team near the town he grew up in. Lebron was coming home to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
I’m RW and let’s have a fireside chat about “Coming Home”
When I think of the Lebron James going back to Cleveland I think of the “The Parable of the Lost Son” in Luke 15:11-32 (NIV) and how some Christians come to a place where they try to remove themselves Christ. In Luke 15:12 the son ask for his share of the estate. Once he got his share he gathered his items and set off to a distance land Luke 15:13. We are no different at times in our lives. We want what we feel that is owed to us and once we get it, we are off to do what we want with it because we want to fill our own desires. The Lord wants the best for us and like the son in the parable he did not want to listen to his father and at times we do the same to The Lord. He only wanted what he wanted. Many times in life we make our own choices and most of the time they do not work out. The same went for the prodigal son. He made a choice that put him in a land stricken with a sever famine Luke 15:14 and he began to be in need. He got to a point where he knew that he should not have left his father. The same applies when we try to leave our Heavenly Father we soon come to a place where we know we should not have.
I am sure the son thought about what his father would say or ask him. If you are trying to walk away from The Lord do you have the same questions? Do you feel if you come back home you will be rejected? Are you just plain scared? Are you feeling embarrassed to come back? Let me tell you it does not matter. The Lord loves you so much that when you return He will run to you and have His arms open like the father of the prodigal son Luke 15:20. The prodigal son felt unworthy to be called his son Luke 15:21. But his father recognized him as his son. The Lord recognizes you as His son or daughter. When Lebron James made the announcement that he was returning to Cleveland the people were cheering and celebrating his return. In Luke 15:22-24 the father did the same for his son he celebrated. Jesus celebrates as well when one of His children comes home.
In the story the father’s second son is not happy that a celebration is going on for his brother who made a bad choice then decided to come home. But the father tells the second son in Luke 15:31 “My son,’ the father said, ‘you are always with me, and everything I have is yours.I love the verse and this is true statement for our heavenly Father as well. The parable ends with Luke 15:32 “But we had to celebrate and be glad, because this brother of yours was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.” Have you allowed your relationship to die or be lost in Christ? Please come home to Christ who has his arms wide open to receive you and celebrate your return.
