When driving you need to know where you are going so you know what roads to take to get to a destination. If it is the first time you are going somewhere you might use a map, may get step by step direction printed out, or you may use a GPS to get there. But no matter what, you are in the driver’s seat. You control what route or how fast or slow you will get to our destination.
I’m RW and let’s have a fireside chat about “Who is in the Driver’s Seat?”
In our typical day-to-day, we’re in the driver’s seat and have a routine we follow to accomplish the tasks at hand and often drive to various destinations without a second thought. But when it comes to seeking the Lord God‘s will for our lives, how many of us still want to be in the driver’s seat? The Lord God has the big picture with the road map, His will and directions for our lives. So in order to fully submit and let the Lord drive, we must have Faith. A good example of the Lord’s guiding can be seen in Exodus 13:21 when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt. “By day the Lord went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way and by night in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night.” Image that you just left Egypt where you were captive/enslaved by Pharaoh and now you are free to leave but where do you go? God had the plan and the road map to follow. He had the directions. But in order to let God guide us we have to humble ourselves and accept Him being in control Psalm 25:9. He will guide us to even the end Psalm 48:14 and Psalm 73:24.
What are some of the blessings we receive for letting the Lord be in the driver’s seat? I think of Proverbs 2:6-9 “For the Lord gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding. 7 He holds success in store for the upright, He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, 8 for He guards the course of the just and protects the way of his faithful ones. 9 Then you will understand what is right and just and fair—every good path.” Also Deuteronomy 28:1-2.
We have to let the Lord God be in the driver’s seat all the time. He will set the path we should take, the turns we should make, the detours, and the speed Proverbs 16:9 and John 16:12-15. We need to just sit back trust and have faith in the driver’s seat and stop the back seat driving. Proverb 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to him,and he will make your paths straight”.
How often do we try to change God’s plans or try to convince God to go in a different direction? He knows the plans for our lives.
Will you trust the Lord to be in your driver seat?
