Full Surrender
Are you a Christian that professes Jesus name but still have parts of your life you want to have control over without involvement from Jesus? Do you trust Jesus with ALL your heart? Do you let your emotions drive how you respond to Jesus?
I’m RW and let’s have a fireside chat about “Full Surrender”.
One of the definitions of surrender is “to give the control or use of (something) to someone else”. If you have kids and have a baby sitter you are surrendering your children’s care over to the baby sitter. If you are traveling by car, bus, plane, train, boat , etc. or someone else is driving you are surrendering to them with the hope of a safe arrival. When I think of surrender in those cases I think of Trust.
The examples I gave are simple things in life that we surrender to others. Why is it at times or maybe in some cases all the time that as Christian we do not surrender 100% to the Lord? The Bible says in Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; 6 in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight”. The first word is “Trust”. Trust in whom? Trust in the Lord. How many of us trust in the Lord first and not ourselves or other people? I am not saying you should trust other people but I am asking do you seek the Lord first. The next part of the scripture says “with all your heart”. It did not say “part of your heart or some of your heart”. Do you really seek the Lord everyday with all your heart or only in times of crisis in your life? The Lord is looking for full surrender to him and in order to do that you must trust in the Lord 100% with ALL your heart. This is very hard to do! Full surrender to God means we have to acknowledge that we are not in control. We have to surrender all feelings and thoughts to God.
Verse 6 says “in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight”. There is that word again “all”. In all your ways submit to him. The word “submit” can easily be replaced with “surrender”. When we surrender to the Lord; He will make our path straight because we are walking in obedience to His will for our lives.
Another scripture that speaks to this is James 1:2-8 “2 Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various [a]trials, 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces[b]endurance. 4 And let [c]endurance have its perfect [d]result, so that you may be [e]perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.5 But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and [f]without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord, 8 being a[g]double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” When I read this scripture the first thing that jumps out is “Consider it all Joy” This comes from surrendering (trusting) the Lord in every trial. He knows exactly where we are and how we feel. Later on in the scripture it talks about doubt and being double minded. When I read that I think about not fully surrendering. We seek insights and guidance from others or rely on our own wisdom. We ask for His will in faith and we want to believe but how many of us still doubt.
If you are seeking God’s will for your life and you are trusting God why would you not fully surrender? Could it be that you are afraid that God may reveal to you something He wants you to do and you may not want to do it? Are you afraid you will have to reprioritize various aspects of your life? Are you afraid that you may be ridiculed? These are a few questions that may help to reveal why you aren’t fully surrendered. Remember, ANYTHING God wants us to do He will equip us to fulfill His purpose (Philippians 1:6 & Ephesians 2:10). However, we must fully surrender first.
God loves us so much He sent His son to die for you (John 3:16, Romans 5:8). God knows the plans for your life (Jeremiah 29:11). He is the creator of the universe the creator of all things. He is the Alpha and Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End (Revelation 22:13). Are you willing to fully surrender to your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?
