I Do Not Know Him

As a Christian you understand in order to have eternal life you must accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior – Ephesians 2:8-9 and Acts 16:31. But once we are saved how many of us allow Him to be The Lord of our lives 24 hours and seven days a week?   Do you go about your day only giving Christ a small time of focus or any time at all?

I’m RW and let’s have a fireside chat about “Denying Christ”

When it comes to denying Christ I think of Peter in Luke 22:54-62 54 Having arrested Him, they led Him away and brought Him to the house of the high priest; but Peter was following at a distance. 55 After they had kindled a fire in the middle of the courtyard and had sat down together, Peter was sitting among them. 56 And a servant-girl, seeing him as he sat in the firelight and looking intently at him, said, “This man was with Him too.” 57 But he denied it, saying, Woman, I do not know Him.” 58 A little later, another saw him and said, “You are one of them too!” But Peter said, “Man, I am not!” 59 After about an hour had passed, another man began to insist, saying, “Certainly this man also was with Him, for he is a Galilean too.” 60 But Peter said, “Man, I do not know what you are talking about.” Immediately, while he was still speaking, a rooster crowed. 61 The Lord turned and looked at Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how He had told him, “Before a rooster crows today, you will deny Me three times.” 62 And he went out and wept bitterly.”

Peter loved Christ so much that earlier in the scripture he said he would go to prison or even die to follow with Christ Luke 22:33.   That is how much Peter’s passion and love was for Christ.  However, later on Peter denied Christ.   How often do we as Christians deny Christ?  We neglect to spend time in His Word daily mediating on it. We neglect to spend time in prayer communicating with the Lord.  We get so consumed by our daily activities that we deny the Lord. When you read Luke 22:54-62 have you ever thought that if I were Peter I would not have denied Jesus?   If you are truly honest with yourself you would say yes.    There is no way I would have denied him.  Peter was fearful of what man would do to him when confronted about his relationship with Jesus.  But yet at times we are not even confronted by man but we deny Christ daily.  In order to know Him we have to spend time with Him.  In order to be obedient to the Lord we have to deny our self-daily Luke 9:23 “Then he said to them all: “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross daily and follow me”.

There are three things that impact our desires in a negative way.  First is the devil, who is the master of lies and deception.  The second is the world.  We are inundated everyday with the world’s influences.  The third and last is the flesh.  We want what we want and we want to do what we want to do.  We have to let the Holy Spirit work inside us in order to deny the sinful desires we have.  If we try doing it on our own (flesh) the result is failure.  We must allow the spirit in us to work in us.  Romans 8:12-1312 Therefore, brothers and sisters, we have an obligation—but it is not to the flesh, to live according to it. 13 For if you live according to the flesh, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live.”

Do not deny Christ in our everyday lives.
