Leadership

A couple weeks ago I attended conference on Leadership.   There were several speakers and the theme was “Beyond Yourself”.   I went to the conference with the intent on learning something to apply in my work environment but as I was listening I thought about how to apply it to my spiritual life.   When the speakers gave examples and their views on leadership I immediately thought of Christ.

I’m RW and let’s have a fireside chat about “Leadership”.

The conference was an all-day event and I want to share with you some points that had me thinking about how it could be applied to ones spiritual life.   One of the speakers indicated that a good leader is one that empowers others. A scripture that speaks to my heart is Ephesians 4:11-1311 So Christ Himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, 12 to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up 13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.” A good leader sets a good example to follow John 5:19 “19 Jesus gave them this answer: “Very truly I tell you, the Son can do nothing by himself; he can do only what he sees his Father doing, because whatever the Father does the Son also does.” Another scripture is Psalm 25:4-9. A good leader is fearless Psalm 27:3 “Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then I will be confident” and 2 Timothy 1:7.

Another speaker spoke and he said that a good leader builds trust, listens, respected and is fair.  When it comes to trust I think about the Lord God who is the example of trust.  He keeps his promises and He will not leave us or forsake us.  He listens to us and He loves us unconditionally.   The speaker also stated that a good leader would do anything for their people and would not ask them to do anything they were not willing to do.  He asked the question “How many of you would lay down your life for another person?” I thought about Hebrews 12:1-2 “Therefore, since we have so great a cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us also lay aside every encumbrance and the sin which so easily entangles us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.”  A good leader puts themselves last and others first.  Philippians 2:3 “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves,” Also Matthew 23:11 and Mark 10:44-45.

So a good leader may have some of these qualities but not limited to (empowers, sets a good example, fearless, builds trust, listens, put themselves last and willing to die for their people) .  When I think of the list one person comes to mind that has all these qualities and many others.  That is Jesus Christ.   He is the perfect leader and example to follow.   As a Christian are you letting Christ be the perfect example to follow as a leader in your life?  Are you showing His leadership qualities in your life as you lead /?
